Artist, Leader, and Adventurer Donald Rabin is a fourth year DMA/MA candidate under the instruction of Aralee Dorough. His playing can be heard on Fox News “Good Morning, Chicago”, CBS Chicago, WGN Radio, and the soundtrack for NBC’s Documentary “SkyBlossom”. A former Houston Symphony Community-Embedded fellow and Boston Symphony Collegiate Ambassador, Rabin is an advocate for artistic community engagement. Through the Periwinkle Foundation and Houston Symphony, he currently plays for patients in Texas Children’s Hospital and Purple Songs. He has performed in the Texarkana Symphony, Texas Symphonic Ballet, Texas Renaissance Festival, New England Philharmonic, Cartago Band of Costa Rica, Missouri Symphony and other ensembles. Most recent engagements include the Blaffer Art Museum (Convergence Research Artist) and the Houston Grand Opera’s Madama Butterfly as a Japanese Yamdori Servant.
As a leader, Rabin was featured in the Houston Arts Journal and the CDC Foundation Museum: A Smithsonian Institution as Project Manager for Come Together Houston. This led to being named the first Arts and Health Fellow at the University of Houston, elected President of the Graduate Professional Student Association, and now has several leadership roles. He currently serves as the Houston Flute Club Festival Coordinator, Staging Manager for the National Flute Association, Communications Director for FlootFire, and Director for Flute-A-Thon. Donald’s adventurous spirit led to a passion for interdisciplinary artistry. As the former Mitchell Center Fellow, he curated Convergence Research performances at the Blaffer Art Museum. This, among his other talents, has impacted his education and mentorship for his students. His success would not be possible without his mentors, friends, and family. In his free time, Donald loves to dance, run, travel, and have fun with loved ones.
